Small Talk Six: Exotic or Stange Foods
Please scroll down for Weekend Funnies

Today's Small Talk Six topic is “6 of the most exotic or the strangest things you’ve ever eaten.” Here are mine:

1. Dayok - a mixture of fermented fish intestines; eaten in tiny portions as appetizer or as dipping sauce for boiled banana

2. Bird's nest soup - expensive, I have it once in a blue moon

3. Pidan or alkalized egg - so-so. I'm not a fan

4. Shark fin soup - love it; and I vaguely remember being told that my ex-MIL had it included in my wedding reception

5. Ho Mok Gai Sai - chicken and bamboo shoot wrapped in banana leaves

6. __?__ - I could not for the life of me remember the name of this thing but I'll ask around as soon as I can. I took pictures so please have a look:

a. some ingredients I recognize are coconut strips, peanuts, shallot, chilli, baby shrimp, ginger, and kaffir lime

b. don't know what leaf is this; you shape it like a cup and mix the ingredients in.

c. I asked my son to hold the leaf while I worked the camera. The sauce is sweet. You squeeze the kaffir lime in it. Fold the rest of the leaf to cover ingredients and voila, it's ready to eat!

Weekend Funnies: Confident and Confidential
Please scroll up for Small Talk Six

Today is my first time to join Weekend Funnies. Short and fun memes work for me nicely nowadays that my computer has problems. I thought this should be a good stress reliever.

My entry is about Joseph Estrada a.k.a Erap, an actor and former Philippine president. His critics make fun of his English ability, and he is rumored to be a womanizer - possible factors why this joke is played on him:

Jinggoy (Erap's son): Dad, what's the difference between 'confident' and 'confidential'?

Erap: You are my son. I'm confident about that. Your friend Buknoy who lives on the next street is also my son. I think that is confidential.

Welcome and BRAVO!
I can just picture him saying that!
He is like the Reagan in the Philippines right?
Thank you so much for your contribution.
I know what you mean about long memes.
I have posted the link up for you.
You could not see it?

I have Bird's Nest soup and Shark fin soup but not the others.

Thank you for the recipe to a new discovery! Now I am hungry. LOL
Happy Weekend!

Shakira, as an actor-turned-president, yes Erap is like Reagan. Thanks for linking me up.

Regency delight and love language

Friday's Fave Five: Regency Period Cake Please scroll down for Mommy Moments Ambience of Banana Leaf Restaurant dinners continue to be the trend for us this week. Rustic charm has always been a big hit to me and Banana Leaf's got it. Buckets of real wheat, garlic and pumpkin hang adorning the wall. Plus the sweet and sour fish and chicken with cashew nuts and mushroom are a real pleasure. J Lo Live This was a gift to me two years ago. Cj is too young to be choosy with scents. He smiles playfully when I spray it on him and I laugh inwardly thinking he is a boy wearing a girl's perfume. This week we both smell the same :) Cyberbanking I finally dragged documents and myself down K Bank to register for online financial transactions. Spending only what I earn suits me best as I avoid debts and the convenience of sorting expenses any time of day in familiar surrounding is always welcome. Whisper your wishes

Cross-cultural misunderstandings are rife among gestures of beckonings and farewells in different parts of our planet. For example, the American gesture for "come here" could mean "good-bye" to Italians. Axtell (1998) observes, "the way people beckon one another around the world can be almost as diverse as the way we greet and bid farewell to one another." Today we look into popular hand gestures to signal farewells and to beckon. 1. In the United States , common gesture for getting someone's attention, as when calling a waiter is to raise a hand about head high with the index finger raised (exactly the girl's hand gesture on Samulli's header ) If an American used that gesture to a waiter in Germany , saying "Water please," the German waiter would bring two glasses of water In Japan it is rude; pointing a finger at anyone is considered impolite 2. Italians and Greeks will often wave goodbye with the arm extended, palm up,...
