Who said what?

Header by Samulli While looking for piano sheet music for Not a Sparrow Falleth in what is formerly known as World Trade Center Bangkok, I ended up instead in a stack of books for sale at half their original price. My eyes widened. Books are what I love to buy besides shoes. I picked one which held my interest longer than any of the rest on the pile. It is titled, You Don't Say! (see, even the name of that award I received earlier and passed on to fellow bloggers must have come from somewhere if not this book :-)) This blurb finalized my decision not to go home without the book: "The urge to quote is born in all of us. The tendency to misquote is equally innate. Some quotations get bowdlerised or corrupted as they pass by word-of-mouth. Others get vulgarised. You Don't Say!, written with a sharp wit and happy iconoclasm, contains them all." This is one of those reads that tell you what actually was or wasn't. Jonathon Green endorsed, "...unimpressed b...

Thursday 13: Gradschool highs and lows

Header by Samulli Suggestion: Skip lines in italics. You'll get bored reading them as much as I got bored copy-pasting them from the net. (Except for International Negotiation, the rest are from the website of my alma mater) *************************************** 1. Party schooling . That's how I described gradschool while chatting with a friend last night. She says she's jealous. I assure her she doesn't need to be. Medical school is a different story. "...the torture of preparing for exams, horrible memories of sleep debt," she said so herself. 2. But I know that when she says 'jealous,' it was in response to my tale of spiriting ourselves in high heels to the corner coffee shop in a BMW after doing routine research . "Coffee in medschool was a necessity, not pleasure," the poor doctor lamented. 3. My classmates and I didn't really learn much from that carefree chatter in one of Bangkok's classiest coffee shops. 4. Forget the bra...

There is party after divorce

Having a life after divorce is not a question to me. I didn't allow divorce to obliterate my life. The question is what is in this life, aside from having a kid to have fun with and more importantly, to live a good life for? During mother's day on Sunday, I didn't know what to do with my day until I got invited by friends to a fantastic weekend in Chantaburi. Since it is Thailand's fruit province, I thought a fruit party was in order. But I was treated to something more than that. Irene, her son Josh, Chette, my son Cj and I trooped, friendly invasion style, to Gelan's townhouse early Saturday (May 9th), before joining a handful of Filfriends at a secluded beach. There was no phone signal there. "Charming," I thought, "this dot on the map is all ours." Irene had to walk a few meters up an elevation where she did her call center business without interruption. Surprisingly, ex's ring came thru. I assured him his son is ok and quickly returned t...

Mommy Moments: Happy Mom

If there is one thing that amazes me on a constant basis, it's being a mom. I'm no super mom (still terrified of being out a long time with a 4-year old without a helper) but I'm certainly a happy mom. There was no Motherhood 101 in school; the acquired everyday learning is a whole new brand of fun. "Mommy, look!..." , "Thank you, Mommy" are only a few of the many things thrills. Had an insider convinced me that motherhood was this beautiful an experience, I would have started this in my mid 20s. Happy Mother's day, all ye Mommies!

Sunday Stealing: The 40 Meme

1. My uncle once : took me and my cousins to a rare breakfast near the fish section in the town market. Never in my life : have I seen a ghost. 3. When I was seventeen : I was attending a boarding school in a beautiful, rural location. 4. High School was : not bad 5. I will never forget : that I am supposed to be going somewhere idyllic as soon as possible. 6. I once met : and played with a friendly dog in the Yorkshire Moors. 7.
