Tears are a language

To me there is a difference between crying and shedding tears. Maybe I think that way because I say I never cry. But I do shed tears. This video is not what I planned to share on my first TSMSS from a hiatus. But I visited a bloggy friend today and I just went, 'Oh no!' Before I realized it my was face breaking. Tears fell. I know I will never be able to picture Anya's heartbreak . I can only choke, and having lost a loved one too, feel the pain with her. To Anya, her daughters and Kareltje, I hope this song helps assuage your grief. Amy Wyatt hosts Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Redeeming love

It's probably because I went home recently that some nostalgia got me thinking of a familiar tune. After I settled back to work I looked for it online and was glad to find a beautifully sung version. There's something very appealing about "... throughout the endless ages" and " a love that knows no limit...." I have been listening to this song almost everyday this week. That settles it for me

For weeks I spent some of my free time skimming Max Planck Society. There's this necessity to familiarize oneself with institute regulations. It doesn't take a PhD candidate to recognize elements of hard-core atheism in the research culture of the society's Evolutionary Anthropology wing. That got me reviewing creationism beliefs embedded in my christian upbringing. Overlapping it is the pressure to adhere to fiercely quantitative, evidence-based scientific theories. Yet things are less complicated when you have another option - faith. I don't pretend to be good at it, but I'm thankful that despite deficiences a choice to sense and appreciate what faith is capable of doing in our lives, exists. Here's a clip from a 1976 footage of a Heritage song, God Said It and I Believe It . I loved it then when I was learning to play hop scotch. Now it's my kind of wedge against otherwise unsuitable tilting. Faith is the essence of things unseen The substance of things h...

Draining the ocean dry!

Then Sings My Soul Satudays: The Love of God Please scroll down for Small Talk Six If I went home and looked for that old songbook I could still probably find it. My mother owns it, (a gift shipped in from the US) but unlike the rest of her music-related collection, a footnote in it got my attention. It's been many years since I read it but it amazes me every time I hear or play The Love of God. It was about the origin of the last paragraph - someone wrote it on the wall of an asylum: Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky. This is a piano version of the song. Here's wishing everyone love, in a way that's best for you. In the pink of health

Then Sings My Soul Saturday: Lord You Are Good - Worship Dance Please scroll down for Small Talk Six Pink is up today for the ladies at Mom Dot. The concept got me thinking of "in the pink of health." After an illness last year, Thailand's monarch came out of the hospital in a pink suit. The royal tailor commented that pink is the color he chose His Majesty would wear to convey the assurance to the Thai people that their beloved king is back to good health; that he is in the pink of health. A more wonderful concept is that health is granted equally to everyone, royals or commoners alike, by the King of all kings. 'Your body is the temple of God' is usually followed by advice such as take care of it, honor it by keeping it healthy and clean not just physically but also spiritually. I questioned myself: what have I been doing to my health lately? Go to bed after midnight? Work my body to death? It's high time something better is done to this health, like e...

Faithfulness and Tests

Then Sings My Soul Saturday: Great is Thy Faithfulness Please scroll down for Small Talk Six A quick google search leads me to a brief background of one of christianity's greatest hymns penned by Thomas Chisolm: Great is Thy Faithfulness lyrics are based on a text by Jeremiah, "... My soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. '" (Lamentations 3:19-24). Isn't Jeremiah the weepy guy? I vaguely remember that. Well, I'm not the crying type but I know my issues and this hymn just makes me feel like everything's going to be all right. I love the optimism on " bright hope for tomorrow ." The Hunchback of Abella

A Duet When I was about 8 years old, I sang Something's Happened to Daddy in church. My father was not a church-goer so the guy I sang with was my mother's friend's husband. Papa keeps coming to my mind these days. January is the month he was felled by a massive coronary. Next week on the 14th is the anniversary of his death. The only times he ever set foot in church were during weddings and funerals of family and friends. I remember him being present in church eagerly when I was a flower girl at an aunt's wedding. Finally he entered church one more time. At his own funeral. I made sure church was the very place he went to before the cemetery. I only wished he was the one I sang with. Choirs and the Hallelujah Chorus

It's the season and to me it's not complete without the Hallelujah Chorus. The other thing is majestic choirs move me. Here are two videos by the Brooklyn Tabernacle and the Mormon Tabernacle Choirs. I love both versions of what probably is the most famous part of Handel's Messiah . I get gooseflesh on "King of kings! ... Lord of lords ...." Happy holidays, everyone! Walter Cronkite conducts. Choir begins singing around four minutes into the video. Introductory speeches are covered on the first four. They are as beautiful to watch as the rendition. ~ Amy hosts Then Sings My Soul Saturdays . Visit her at Signs, Miracles and Wonders for more uplifting music or to join ~

The Christmas Song - Lettermen

We normally have no open fire in our side of the globe, but I love what this song is about anyway. To me it captures the spirit of christmas so beautifully. It also brings back happy memories of the holidays at home. The uploader commented, "listen to the acapella beginning and ending. Absolutely sublime! The backing throughout the track is deliberately minimal and the overall effect is just stunning!" I love the way christian culture is pictured in these lines: "Yuletide carols being sung by a choir ... Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow... And so I'm offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although its been said many times, many ways, A very Merry Christmas to you" ~ Visit Amy @ Signs, Miracles and Wonders for more music ~

Glorious - Karen Clark Sheard

Something upsetting sent me to a lethargic mode longer than I would have allowed myself to be in. Since I'm having none of it today I thought Karen Clark Sheard's Glorious would jump start my internal buttons. This song reminds me of Gloria Estefan's Conga. Just the tempo I suppose. Glorious lyrics apparently make the difference. Stirring this one is. Amy hosts Then Sings My Soul Saturday

He died of what?

A college dormmate described how a bunch of faculty kids discovered and helped an ownerless, injured cat. It died. The kids had no clue how was the cat injured. As human nature would always long for at least some closure to a rather sad experience, they speculated on what happened to the poor feline. One little boy, his eyes round as marbles, comforted himself and others with him by suggesting, "the cat...he... he died of a broken heart." I am guessing that kid must have been listening to this song: ~ More at Amy's Signs, Miracles, and Wonders ~

Here all along

So far I haven't come across any distinct identification of a target audience for this song, but with the way the lyrics go it sounds appropriate for the backslidden. Ok, I haven't been to church in awhile but I don't think I'm gonna say I'm coming back because I've never been away, just lagging behind church attendance. The world to me hasn't gone upside down. Anyway, the graphics are scenic, and the message lovely. ~ More at Amy's Signs, Miracles, and Wonders ~

We Need Him Through it All

"I did not understand at first why this hymn had touched the great throbbing heart of humanity. It was not until long after, when the shadow fell over my way, the shadow of a great loss, that I understood something of the comforting power in the words which I had been permitted to give out to others in my hour of sweet serenity and peace." - Annie Hawks on her composition I Need Thee Every Hour after the death of her husband We need Him every hour indeed. I'm a bit surprised at myself for saying 'every hour.' I have been listening to and singing this song like forever but haven't really thought seriously of the every hour bit. I took it as just some poetic appeal to the song. But as Ketsana 's rage became more clear to me on top of all the other global issues we are facing, every hour has taken on a new meaning. It's great timing for Through it All to be included in this vide...

He first loved me

I am playing this especially for my 5-year old today - a dose of something real, and a break from the everyday Winnie the Pooh, Lion King, and what else has he.... But it's also a sweet, familiar refrain for you and me. ~ TSMSS is brought to you by Amy @ Signs, Miracles, and Wonders ~

He's my Friend

Here's a sweet song about the Best Friend anyone could ever have. Unlike human friends, a Divine Friend is fail-proof so you never get your heart broken or experience disappointment. Personally, He has never failed me, and I know He won't. Ever. It's only I failing Him all the time. *sheepish* But I'm glad that He's always around. Through it all. I love it when the congregation of the church I sometimes go to sings this during worship. I particularly like the harmony of this group. I hope you enjoy listening to this song once again as much as I did. ~ brought to you by Amy @ Signs, Miracles, and Wonders ~

His Eye is on the Sparrow

~ brought to you by Amy of Signs, Miracles and Wonders ~ Here's Big Mama's take on a great gospel hymn. If you've seen them around, I'd love to know what you think. If you haven't, I hope you enjoy listening to them. (They just blew me away) Have a great Saturday, everyone!

A two-year old sings the Lord's Prayer

It was the Lord's Prayer I was looking for on youtube weeks ago. Of course with the kind of piece that The Lord's Prayer is, there are many versions of it sang by different artists. I picked two from all those choices: Charlotte Church and Regine Velasquez, Asia's songbird. But I made a full stop at the rendition of this little angel. Cute. Talented. Adorable. I kept replaying the video. Among the end credits that I liked in particular is "Directed by: Mommy." You may have seen her already. I may be just as amused, wowed, entertained and blessed as you by this little singing diva. Here she is: TSMSS is hosted by Amy of Signs, Miracles and Wonders . TSMSS: Hosanna

During Saturday afternoons when I was a kid, I listened to the Heritage Singers music with my mother who is a fan. I had no idea what happened to them years later. In 2006 a friend told me about their 35th anniversary concert. I bought the DVD and noticed new members as well as a few new styles in their singing. I love this upbeat Hosanna.
