Incense

I introduce incense.
I sing the sweets I know, the charms I feel, My morning incense ... The sweets of Hasty-Pudding. Come ... glide o'er my palate, and inspire my soul.
-Barlow, Joel
'The Hasty-Pudding', canto1

Like Barlow's, these are also morning incense. Or I see them burning in the morning. Never in the evening. These incense sticks in my workplace burn endlessly. I've been here awhile.  The years have accustomed me to the fragrance. Thais burn incense reverently like this one does.

We, in India, burn a lot of incense as well.We call it 'agarbathi'. The town where I live, Mysore, is known for its agarbathi. It is a cottage industry here. http://www.google.co.in/search?q=agarbathi+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Tl0&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&q=agarbatti+manufacturers+in+mysore&aq=1b&aqi=g-m1g-b4&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=116bc879be8b8161

Incense always reminds me of churches or 'new age' type shops!

Thank you for the great contribution to I-day! I love incense having grown up with it in church and now using Indian incense in my home daily.

I like incense - since my teen years. When we visit the New England Peace Pagoda, I always bring a stick or two to burn. Can't wait until the snow is all gone and we can climb the road up to the pagoda and sit by the pond and visit with the frogs. :-)

Thanks for your visit to The Pagan Sphinx. I'm so glad you came! I will follow you as well.

Peace

@HelenMac, I'm glad I joined finally. I have always wanted to do ABC Wednesday since I began blogging. For some reason I never got around to it until now. I think I will enjoy this meme very much.

@Pagan Sphinx, climb the road to the pagoda, sit by the pond and visit with the frogs - how charming! Great art blog you have going. Thanks for dropping by.

Hallelujah Chorus: stand or sit?

According to legend, King George II of England rose to his feet when the Hallelujah Chorus was sung. Following protocol his subjects rose up as well. Thus began the tradition of audiences around the world rising during the Hallelujah performace. There are many speculations as to why the king stood or if he even stood at all. The Bangkok Combined Choir is composed of volunteer singers of around twenty nationalities. Every year in December, the choir performs Handel's Messiah. I sang once. (pure luck: there was no audition in 2000) Rehearsals got me thinking of the tradition of standing when the Hallelujah Chorus is sang. I googled what people have to say and my today is a list of opinions about audience decorum during the chorus: 1. The Hallelujah Chorus is like an anthem for the church. Whenever you hear it you are supposed to stand up. 2. Standing for the Hallelujah Chorus just interrupts the performance. 3. People should not be taught that they need to stand up at a certain time ...

Regency delight and love language

Friday's Fave Five: Regency Period Cake Please scroll down for Mommy Moments Ambience of Banana Leaf Restaurant dinners continue to be the trend for us this week.
