Oliver Twist II

Things around me this week are calmer compared to last week. It's great to get back to normal that's also filled with faves to report:

1. Parcel from Lancashire. Inside is a little wrapped box. On it is written NOT TO BE OPENED UNTIL CHRISTMAS. I hope I can stand the suspense.

2. Last week of OT (overtime) this year. It's great to come home at 4.30, not 9 PM. Since Tuesday I've been enjoying longer evenings of relaxation - lie down when I want to, neglect domestic chores for awhile and nobody minds; sit in front of the computer as long as I want.

3. Foot soak and midnite snacking while chatting with former college mates - one in Virginia and the other, right in Bangkok. It's a fun kind of multi-tasking.

4. DVDs. I bought Bedtime Stories, a Walt Disney family comedy for CJ and a special edition of Discovery Channel's Nostradamus for me. They're worth the entertainment value they promised on the cover.

5. Changes in Cj's behavior that make me smile and wonder. Somehow on weekend mornings when I prepare breakfast, he doesn't play or watch movies by himself anymore. Instead he puts slices of bread on the toaster, picks his spread from the fridge and follows me while I fry sausages. He doesn't ask for more but he reminds me so much of Oliver Twist as he stands by looking up with anticipation on his face and a plate on his little hands waiting patiently for me to place the sausages on it.

Pooooooor Thom... he's a bit slow on the uptake! LOL! I love little surprises! Fortunately NONE of mine came saying "do not open until Christmas"... I got to find out right away!

Luz sometimes does what CJ does... she doesn't ask - she just brings her plate back and looks ... like a little puppy ... very HOPEful! hehehe... so cute!

Have a wonderful week ahead Hazel!

The Hunchback of Abella

A Duet When I was about 8 years old, I sang Something's Happened to Daddy in church. My father was not a church-goer so the guy I sang with was my mother's friend's husband. Papa keeps coming to my mind these days. January is the month he was felled by a massive coronary. Next week on the 14th is the anniversary of his death. The only times he ever set foot in church were during weddings and funerals of family and friends. I remember him being present in church eagerly when I was a flower girl at an aunt's wedding. Finally he entered church one more time. At his own funeral. I made sure church was the very place he went to before the cemetery. I only wished he was the one I sang with. Sense and Sensibility: 200th anniversary

In 1811 Thomas Egerton of Whitehall, London published Sense and Sensibility . Quick math shows it has been two centuries since Jane Austen became a full-fledged author. Quite an anniversary, indeed. A celebration, I declare . Blogs regarding the publication anniversary of this romance novel picture Jane Austen 's engagements whilst making the final touches of her manuscript from Sloane Street. In letters to her sister Cassandra, Jane gave accounts of her shopping for muslin, the party that their brother Henry and SIL Eliza gave; mentioned several acquaintances, and referred to her book as S and S . As a fan I wonder which between sense and sensibility did JA deem more important since she portrayed both attributes equally well. I'm obliged to enthuse over my S & S reading experience. Alas, I only managed fourteen chapters before getting sidetracked by another novel, the very first that JA wrote. I will resume and complete my affair with the celebrant before 2011 end
