Visayan and Bisaya

Bisaya is a dialect of the Visayans, an ethnolinguistic group in the Philippines. Bisdak is a contraction of Bisayang Dako which means The Great Visayan. Or so I interpret it that way. Precision can only be as varied as the hundreds of other dialects existing in the Philippines. Bisdak Bloggers are a group of bloggers who speak Bisaya.

English is the medium of instruction in most private and public schools in the Philippines. It is a significant path Bisdaks take to learn English as their second language. As post-modern media shrinks the world, these Bisdaks meet in the blogosphere and form an online community. The badges and links you see below are examples of this camaraderie of Bisdaks.

We BISDAKS do speak English. In fact that is the main language of our blogs. But we also celebrate our dialect by alloting a post written in Bisaya through a meme that we play once a week. The meme is called Hulagway sa Kinabuhi or Pictures of Life. It enables Bisdaks to socialize in familiar surroundings.
